Foreclosure Prevention Awareness

About CHFA’s Foreclosure Prevention Efforts

In February 2008, CHFA and 12 sub-grantees were awarded a $1.5 million grant from NeighborWorks America to increase foreclosure prevention activities in Colorado. $1.2 million of the grant award has been set aside to hire and train additional foreclosure mitigation counselors. The remaining award dollars will help promote foreclosure mitigation services available to homeowners at risk of foreclosure, most notably the Colorado Foreclosure Hotline (1-877-601-HOPE).

To guide our marketing efforts, CHFA conducted research to highlight the areas most in need of information about housing counseling services. Seven target areas were identified including neighborhoods in Aurora, Colorado Springs, Denver, Greeley and Parker. These neighborhoods demonstrated relatively high levels of foreclosure filings, but did not show a corresponding volume of calls to the Colorado Foreclosure Hotline. Throughout 2008, CHFA will work with its partners to organize advertising, community meetings, and direct mail promoting the Colorado Foreclosure Hotline and its network of nonprofit housing counselors within these seven key-market areas and throughout the state.

The sub-grantees are:

  • Adams CountyHousing Authority, Commerce City
  • Boulder County Housing Authority, BoulderCounty
  • Brothers Redevelopment, Inc., Denver
  • City of Aurora, Aurora
  • Colorado Homeowner Assistance Project, Fort Collins/Greeley
  • Colorado Housing Assistance Corporation, Denver
  • Douglas CountyHousing Partnership, Castle Rock
  • Grand Valley Housing Initiatives, Grand Junction
  • Housing Solutions for the Southwest, Durango
